Who Will be the Next big thing in British Poker?

The Hunt for the New British Poker Champion continues when the Gala Casinos British Poker Tour comes to Teesside with week.

After a well-attended, high spirited festival in 2007, it’s set to be every bit as enjoyable and over-subscribed as the other legs of the tour. Aptly dubbed “The People’s Poker Tour”, players of all ability are welcome to enjoy the exciting atmosphere of the event – you don’t need to be a professional to play or win.

Gala Casino Teesside general manager, Stephen Andrew, says: “We’re really looking forward to another great festival – last year Stockton-on-Tees put on a great tournament and this year is set to be even better!”

This is the second year of the GCBPT, which was created in response to the ever increasing popularity of online poker across the UK. As well as the tour’s massive cash prize pool in excess of £1 million, poker professionals, amateur players and poker novices alike will compete for the ultimate accolade of GCBPT Champion 2008.

A series of No Limit Texas Hold’em poker tournaments will culminate in the three-day Main Event where poker players will battle it out for the title of Stockton-on-Tees GCBPT Champion 2008, along with an estimated first prize of £30,000 in cash and a seat at the GCBPT Grand Final, to be held in Bristol in December. There is £150,000 in cash prizes up for grabs across the whole event.

“This really is the people’s poker tour and we‘ll be running games for less experienced players as well as the pros. We can also offer one-to-one poker tuition for anyone wanting to brush up on their knowledge of the game. Hitting the casino during the tour is a sure ‘bet’ for thrills and action!”
