Poker definitions: Blinds.

Poker definitions: Blinds.
There are so many words and phrases used by online poker players that are unique to the game that you may feel you need a dictionary while you're learning to play. Memorizing the meanings of terms regularly used at the poker table not only allows a beginner to follow the game more easily, learn the poker rules, adjust strategy and some terms are used just because they sound cool.
The following are some frequently used poker words. While some words you will encounter only in games using Blinds, like Omaha and Texas Hold'em, many refer to the building of a good hand, which is poker-universal.
The blinds are forced bets posted by players to the left of the dealer button in flop-style poker games. The number of blinds is usually two, but can be one or three.
The blinds exist because popular online poker formats such as Omaha and Texas hold 'em are frequently played without antes, allowing a player to fold his hand without placing a bet. The blind bets introduce a regular cost to partake in the game, thus inducing a player to enter pots in an attempt to compensate for that expense.
Before the tournament begins, the players will agree to a blinds structure, usually set by the tournament organizer. This structure defines how long each round is and how much the blinds increase per round. As the blinds increase, players need to increase their chip counts (or "stacks") to stay in the game. The blinds will eventually consume all of a player's stack if he or she does not play and win more.
Little Blind: He is the first person to act in the game, because is immediately to the left of the dealer (or person with the dealer's button), and he places an amount equal to 1/2 of the ante in the pot. No cards have been dealt yet.
Big Blind: The player to the left of the Little Blind places the Big Blind, an amount of chips equal to the ante, in the pot. Still no cards have been dealt
Defending The Blinds: Everyone has to post the Blinds eventually, since the responsibility for them goes in turn around the table according to all cardroom poker rules, so at one point or another you'll be defending the money you bet.
